Meridian Water Polo Club | Winter Session Recap
February 2, 2026
Meridian Community,
As we officially close our first session as a new club, John and I have spent a lot of time reflecting on what has been built over these past months and, just as importantly, how it has been built.
From the beginning, Meridian was never just about creating another place to train. It was about building something meaningful together. What has stood out most during this first session is the sense of purpose these athletes bring with them every day. The girls show up happy, motivated, and invested not only in becoming better players, but in helping make this club successful. That sense of ownership and belief is something they will carry far beyond the pool.
Every practice, they work not only to improve individually and collectively as a team, but as a club. The bonds they are forming with one another are real and powerful. Those relationships lift all of us and push us to be better coaches, better leaders, and better people. That is not accidental. That is by design, and it sits at the heart of what we are building.
John and I could not be more proud of this group. The growth we have seen over a relatively short period of time has been meaningful. Their willingness to push harder, to be stronger, and to challenge the process rather than simply accept it shows up daily in their work ethic and attention to detail.
Progress is built in the little things. Technique. Habits. Focus. We focus on connecting the body with the mind so that movement becomes instinctive and repeatable, building true muscle memory under pressure. Parents may see this show up in subtle ways: athletes who were thinking through every movement in December now reacting naturally in scrimmage situations, making decisions faster and with more confidence. There is no shortcut. There is no easy path. Everything is earned. And the girls are learning that when small details stack, they create real and lasting advantages.
As we close the winter and move into the Spring session, our focus shifts while remaining grounded in the foundation already in place. Winter emphasized positional development, efficient movement, and technical proficiency. Spring is where we begin to more intentionally connect individual skills to team systems. Training pace will increase. Expectations will rise. We will place a greater emphasis on game intelligence, tactical awareness, and understanding how each role fits into the larger whole.
In February, we will also pause for structured self-reflection. Each athlete will assess where they believe they have grown, where they want to improve, and what their personal and team goals are moving forward. John and I will meet individually with every athlete to align on those goals and lay out a clear development plan for the next six months. This reflective process is something we intend to carry forward each session cycle, as it is essential to long-term growth and accountability.
To the parents, none of this happens without your belief, trust, and support. You are helping build a community that values effort, character, resilience, and purpose. The future we are building is bright because it is being built together.
This is only the beginning. The journey is long, and we are incredibly grateful to be walking it with all of you.
